Christa works with International Justice Mission, a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. Prior to working at their headquarters in Washington, DC, she worked in Cambodia providing crisis care and job placement coordination for trafficking survivors.

Dan Haseltine, the singer of Jars of Clay, talks about what kind of worship God truly wants.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. – James 1:27

The Church community is supposed to be a place where we draw together to enter into harm’s way. We go in safety into unsafe places. But it’s messy because it means suffering.

The book that Dan mentions is called the Fabric of Faithfulness by Steven Garber, it is available at Amazon.com.

It’s crunch time for Uncle Shelby.

I’m currently in the process of getting together all the last minute details for RADIATE09. Practicing parodies, writing in filler humor, composing interview questions for our celebrity guests…you know, stuff like that. I’m really excited for the conference this year and am eagerly anticipating what God will do when we all get there. If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still plenty of room, and walk-ins are totally welcome.

Until then, though, have a great Christmas, do well in your fantasy football leagues, and don’t over eat too much before the 28th comes–I want you healthy for the big day the conference starts.

New CD for the Bridge Band!!

We just got word from the Bridge Band that they will be releasing a brand new CD at RADIAT09!! We absolutely love their previous 2 albums, and are pumped to see what they come up with next!

And there’s MORE great news!! The Bridge Band wants YOU to be a part of their album! On Sunday, November 29th they’re inviting anyone and everyone to sing in a choir that will be throughout the whole album. The recording time is from 1:00-4:00, at Second Story Sound Studio on 220 E. Union Street in West Chester, PA. The more the merrier!

I like the choices I made this time…my hope is that you have a more enjoyable experience at the conference because of them. That being said, if you don’t enjoy them, please pretend that you do because I’m a very sensitive individual with fragile feelings.

We did a little filming yesterday for the online promotional commercials that are being produced for RADIATE09! I got together with the Bridge Band at a secure location and we filmed for the afternoon in the glorious fall weather.

I’ve been praying some lately about whether or not to make a certain purchase from my local Bed, Bath and Beyond. I’m talking, of course, about the Snuggie. The Snuggie has swept the nation in a way that only a blanket with sleeves could do. Bridge Band Recording

It’s taken a little longer than I anticipated, but schedules were finally worked out and aligned with all parties involved to get some things rolling on the recording of a few parodies with the Bridge Band for RADIATE09 promotion.

I’ll be heading into the studio with the boys next Thursday to “lay down a few tracks” in the hopes that RADIATE will receive the right kind of promotion and praise, and therefore spark more interest in the magnificent event that will make you continually hold on to your socks for fear that they may be knocked off.

The songs I parody will no doubt be familiar to you, but there will be a distinct difference in my approach than in years previous. That’s all I’m going to be giving away for now. You’ll just have to wait and see what we come up with to have a bigger helping of RADIATE deliciousness. More to come, I promise.

There’s a new invention out there called “The Personal Home Computer” that, believe it or not, is sweeping the east coast. A lot of people have these “computers” now and it’s probably because it connects to this invisible world called “The Internet” via some magical mystery. Contained within this invisible mystery is a universe called “Twitter”.

Twitter gives you to opportunity to spy on people even though they are completely aware that you are spying on them. I know it seems a bit strange, and to some of you, this comes as quite a shock, but it’s not all bad. Twitter gives you an opportunity to keep up with the latest goings-on with certain events and happenings in people’s lives.

Floor Correction

Well, after many chastising comments and spurning correction pleas, I will now correct myself.

The Marriott Hotel that we are staying in at the Baltimore Inner Harbor has 32 floors, not anything less!

32 floors of awesomeness. Imagine if you were on that top floor at RADIATE this year…wow. Dream big people!

Sneak Peek

I spent the weekend in Baltimore for the annual Sneak Peek weekend. Sneak Peek is an all-frills trip for students that want to be a part of the promotion and recruitment for RADIATE09.

The students got an early look at the amazing new hotel we’ll be in come December, free food, free shirts, free water bottles, free cds and much more. It was a great time with everyone there from the Mid-Atlantic and the hope is that RADIATE will continue to see growth as we travel to a new and better destination this winter.

Above is the view from my room out to the inner harbor…and I was only on the 7th floor. The hotel has 23 floors. Use your imagination to picture what that view would be. No, wait. Don’t use your imagination!; just look around our newly launched website!
